Volunteers are an essential part of Another Way. They play a vital role in the daily life and growth of the organization by bringing creativity, energy, and diverse perspectives that enrich every aspect of our work – from maintaining the permaculture gardens and assisting in workshops to supporting communication and community projects.
Their contribution is not only practical but also deeply human, helping to build a spirit of cooperation, learning, and solidarity that defines who we are. At Another Way, volunteers are not just helpers, but steppingstones on our path towards a sustainable future. All volunteers remain valued members of our extended team and community. Since the start of our project, we have already welcomed over 100 volunteers from more than 20 countries.
The Opportunity
Another Way functions both as an educational space and as a working model of sustainability in practice. Here, volunteers and visitors participate in activities such as permaculture gardening, natural building, food production, ecological design, traditional crafts, and community events. The monastery, once an abandoned site, has been transformed into a place of learning, creativity, and renewal, where people from diverse backgrounds come together to live simply, work collaboratively, and reconnect with nature.

What to expect
As a volunteer at Another Way, you will be welcomed into a peaceful mountain environment, surrounded by forests, rivers, the sound of the birds and seasonal crickets. Our hub, the restored historic Monastery of Poretsou, is circular build and serves as a place that blends tradition, sustainability, and community life.
Accommodation is offered either in shared or individual rooms, depending on the length of stay and the season. Daily life is calm and close to nature: we share meals, tasks, and ideas, all contributing to the maintenance and evolution of the space.
Self-responsibility, curiosity, and a willingness to learn are key. Everyone here participates in the daily rhythm — whether gardening in the permaculture plots, cooking with seasonal produce, supporting workshops, or helping with eco-building and community projects.
We strive to live according to sustainable principles, using organic and biodegradable products, reusing and recycling materials, and minimizing waste and energy use. Volunteers are asked to embrace an eco-conscious lifestyle during their stay.
Daily Life
Life at Another Way follows the rhythm of nature and community. Our days begin together with a sharing circle — often with a shared breakfast overlooking the mountains — followed by morning activities such as tending the garden, preparing meals, helping with construction or maintenance, or supporting workshops and guests. Tasks are divided according to each person’s interests, skills, and the needs of the moment, always leaving room for creativity and initiative.
Meals are prepared and enjoyed together, using vegetables and herbs from our permaculture gardens, whenever possible. Afternoons may include lighter tasks, personal projects, or time for rest and reflection.
Volunteers are encouraged to share their talents – from cooking and art to music, personal practices, or storytelling – adding to the diversity of community life.
Evenings are often spent around a shared meal, a campfire, or quiet moments under the stars. Discussions, games, or film screenings bring our guests together, creating lasting connections. Weekends may include excursions to nearby villages, rivers, or mountains, offering a chance to explore and appreciate the beauty of the area.
