Where Heritage Meets Renewal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A Catalyst for Creativity, Sustainability, and Solidarity<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

By the creative reuse of the Poretsou Monastery, a heritage site that had been inactive for more than forty years, as a secular, open cultural and ecological hub, we like to demonstrate that abandoned rural spaces can be re-activated through solidarity, creativity and a shared responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The monastery also serves as a micro-laboratory of Europe\u2019s green transition. It brings together young citizens from different backgrounds to co-create practical responses to global challenges \u2014 climate change, drought, food insecurity, and rural depopulation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We regularly host community gatherings, meditation sessions, and musical evenings that nurture creativity, connection, and collective well-being. These events strengthen social bonds and foster a spirit of inclusivity and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no brotherhood. The hosting space was originally a monastery, but nowadays Another Way operates it as a secular, inclusive community hub open to all beliefs, identities and cultures. Volunteers enjoy full freedom of thought, expression and lifestyle, within a precept that maintains mutual respect and community harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u039d\u03b5\u03c1\u03bf\u03c4\u03c1\u03b9\u03b2\u03ae: A Traditional Laundry Basin<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This old eco laundry basin which uses only river water has been restored to its previous glory. It is situated close to the monastery and is open for public use to wash blankets and carpets, as it was traditionally used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This laundry basin was restored through the Points of Support: Small Grants, Big Ideas<\/a> program, and implemented in collaboration with the Cultural Association of Agrampela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This project is also related to the Small-Scale Hydropower Conversion Project, with the hope to transform an abandoned watermill near the monastery into a renewable-energy system to supply clean electricity for the site.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A serene mountain-side monastery where humans, animals, and nature coexist. Volunteers share simple communal living, support restoration and gardening, and experience the rhythms of the landscape\u2014sunrises over the peaks, walnut harvests, and the calm presence of wildlife\u2014all within a place shaped by centuries of monastic care.<\/em><\/h3>

I spent a few days at the Monastery, it’s a timeless place, in a crucible of fabulous nature. A place to learn to breathe again, calm down inside yourself, feel safe. Thank you Spyros for being the guardian of this temple of tranquility.<\/em><\/h3>

What a fabulous week it was. The monastery is quite beautiful and is situated in a valley with trees and mountains encompassing all. It has been restored very sympathetically, the chapel dates back to the 1600’s I believe and it has these wonderful frescos, worth a visit just for that. The accommodation is great and Spyros provides everything you need. I had some of the best night’s sleep, so quiet and peaceful. I did a fair bit of stargazing!<\/em><\/h3>

The community of Poretsou is a physical platform at 800 feet where you breath oxygen and learn long forgotten skills. And the food is absolutely amazing<\/em><\/h3>
